Adult Botanical Art taster course – not-for-profit

This course is designed for all abilities to explore different approaches to botanical art making. No experience required.

This is a not-for-profit course is funded by Avenue Service (NW) Limited.

By the end of the course you should be able to:
-Develop observational drawing skills
-Experiment with and develop skills usings watercolour
-Interpret the work of others in a personal way
-Introduction to the art of origami

 

Week 1 and 2: Botanical Illustration

In the first week you will be introduced to the art of botanical illustration. This involved observational study followed experimentation with watercolours.

To develop this in the second week you will begin to put your observational study skills and knowledge of watercolours together to create a final outcome.

Week 3: William Morris Style Illustration

In week three you will be introduced to the work of designer William Morris and begin to design and paint your own pattern using his floral motif style as inspiration.

Week 4 and 5: Origami and consolidation

In the fourth week, you will be taught the art of Origami. Continuing the floral theme of the course, you will learn to make a range of flowers. The skills acquired could lead you to produce a larger selection to create a floral paper bouquet. The final week of the course will be to finalise all productions of the course, with tips, advice and guidance on hand.

 

Course includes snacks, refreshments, art equipment given free to all participants to keep and tuition.

Small suggested contribution of £5 per class to cover core business costs (room hire, insurance, website fees etc).

FREE to blacon residents with proof of address (2 x documents – 1 national photo ID such as passport/driving license, 1 utility/mortgage/council tax bill dated within last 6 months required to qualify).

About the Tutor:

Mrs Olivia Walker is a qualified and experienced Art teacher and Head of Art. She has taught art in Tuscany, Barcelona and South Africa. Olivia is a practicing artist and works in a range of media, taking inspiration from her wide and varied travels. She lives in North Wales with her husband and kitten.
