  • Skillfully combine water, watercolours, inks and pen to great effect

Weds 3rd Jan – Poppy seed heads

We will be introduced to water soluble pens and how the pen can be used neat or watered down for shadows. Observational drawing skills will be developed and a monochromatic tonal drawing developed paying close attention to light, shadow and mark making.

Weds 10th Jan – Peppers observational drawings with ink

We will learn how to introduce a small amount of colour in selected areas of our drawing. We will develop a textured background, making compositional choices about what to collage into our backgrounds before working on top with ink painting and pen drawing.

Weds 17th Jan – Enchanting doorways

We will develop our skills in depicting a range of textures in one composition  such as wooden doors, stone/brickwork, soft leaves and vines etc. We will be working from inspiration images to increase our confidence in applying relevant colour choices, shading, blending and pen detail. We will apply watercolour and where relevant a hint of ink and/or quink ink.

Weds 24th Jan – Enchanting doorways part 2

In this second session we will apply the skills learnt last lesson to our own photograph of a doorway, interlacing our own artistic vision, colour scheme and choices onto the image.

Weds 31st Jan – Splashy flowers

This session will ‘loosen’ us up after the previous controlled work. Using wet on wet watercolour and/or inks we will create abstract shapes and then impose a layer of pen detail on top to draw the floral shape out of the gestural marks created.

Weds 7th Feb – Splashy Flowers part 2    – 2-4pm

We will develop our own styles and manner of depicting florals in pen and ink wash based on the techniques learnt in this penultimate session.

Weds 14th Feb – bringing it all together

This session will be to consolidate our learning, refine prior work and/or apply favourite techniques learnt to a new composition of your choice with advice and guidance on hand.
